How to export your animated travel map

Updated on June 01, 20264 min read

Once your animated travel map looks right, exporting it is a one-click operation. This guide walks through every option on the Export page — format, ratio, quality — and gives recommended settings for each social platform.

Open the Export page

From the editor, click "Export" in the top bar. You arrive on a page with a preview of your route on the left and the export settings on the right.

Pick the format

MP4 is the universal choice — it plays on every social platform, every browser and every device. Travel Story Maker uses MP4 by default when your browser supports it (recent Safari and Chromium), and falls back to WebM otherwise. Both files are uploadable to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X and Facebook.

Pick the aspect ratio

Pick the ratio that matches your platform: 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts; 1:1 for an Instagram feed post; 16:9 for YouTube and X. The preview adjusts instantly so you can verify the framing.

  • Reels / TikTok / Shorts → 9:16, 1080×1920
  • Instagram feed → 1:1, 1080×1080
  • YouTube / X → 16:9, 1920×1080

Quality and length

Standard quality renders quickly and looks great on mobile. Premium quality (1080p, 24 fps) takes longer but produces a cleaner result and supports longer animations. Both happen in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Render and download

Click "Export video" and let the browser render frame by frame. A progress bar shows the time remaining. When it finishes, the MP4 or WebM downloads automatically — typically a few MB for a 15–30 second clip.
